What is a Denturist?
Denturists are trained and licensed members of the Dental Health Profession. A Denturist fits and delivers a patient's dentures as well as does the laboratory aspects of making the prosthesis. Denturists often work in a Denture Clinic with a laboratory contained inside the same office. Denturists can often provide same day repairs and relines for their patients as well as adjustments. How do I clean soft liner? It is important not to scratch or pull the softliner. If you are unsure which cleaner to use with a softliner many denture cleaners are made specifically for softliners. Visit your denture clinic and ask, or read the product description. What products do I need to clean my dentures? Some of the essentials include; a soft denture brush, a denture bath to place the dentures overnight and denture cleaning solution. Can I use hand/dish soap to clean my denture? Soap can be used to clean a denture if you run out of denture cleaner. Although it does not remove stains and deposits that build up over time. How do I clean denture adhesive? Anyone using adhesive knows it's a challenge to remove the adhesive from the denture when cleaning them. Under water rinse off as much adhesive as possible and then dry out the denture with a tissue. Once the denture is dry use another tissue to wipe off the remaining adhesive. Can I use glue to fix a broken denture? Department store glue contain harmful chemicals that should not be put inside the mouth. Glue should never be used to fix a broken denture. When should I reline a denture? If you feel your dentures don't fit as well as they used to, it is time to consider a reline. A reline is recommended after 2-3 years. What is a soft liner? Should I be using adhesive? Adhesive can give a denture wearer some confidence with ensuring that a denture does not fall out when talking, sneezing or yawning. They can be used as a temporary solution until relining a denture or getting a new one. It is important to make sure dentures fit properly to prevent breakage. Do I need to reline/refit or a new denture? If your dentures are feeling loose, adhesives can provide temporary stability to the dentures. After losing your natural teeth the bone and gums begin to shrink. This happens because the bone that once held the teeth in place is no longer needed. It begins to shrink because it has no function in the mouth. It is recommended to get a set of dentures relined/refitted after every 2 to 3 years. Is denture paste harmful to use? Most denture adhesive no longer contain zinc. Too much zinc in the body is not healthy. It is important to use the product you buy as directed on the label. Look to see if your local community or religious group provides any assistance. If you are a veteran, disabled, native or on social assistance there are many solutions available to receive dentures through the city of Ottawa. Low-income families and individuals can call 613 560-6000 to apply for Essential Health and Social Supports for dental care. If your application is approved, the City dental clinics will provide you with care. Can I Only Get an Upper Denture? It is possible to only get a single denture if the opposing jaw has all the teeth. If a person is missing all their teeth, it is essential to get both the top and the bottom denture. Is it possible to get denture care in a Nursing Home or Retirement Residence? Home care visits are available to patients that find it difficult to leave Nursing or Retirement Homes. What payment options are available? For payment, we ask to place a deposit at the start of the treatment, and the balance at the last appointment. We can divide the payments for treatment over the appointments it is required complete the dentures (usually 5 appointment). |
